Welcome to The Occidental Jihadist

Friends, Romans, Country-men (and -women),  fervent jihadists, frustrated Mahdists:

Some of you may have been following my Muslim millennial musings over at “Mahdiwatch.org.”  Probably many others of you are new.  In either case, thanks for checking out this site and if you are so moved, please follow it.  One of the major complaints about my former site was the inability to do just that.  Problem solved!

By way of brief bio: I’m a Christian (conservative but not fundamentalist); PhD in Islamic, World and African history (Ohio State, 2001); former US Army Arabic linguist and, later, civilian consultant to US Special Operations Command; author of books on the Middle East and Middle-earth; history professor; and sometime media opiner (as, for example, on Fox News Channel’s “War Stories: Fighting ISIS“).  I’m also a huge Shakespeare fan, and fence saber as often as I can–and usually left-handed.

Thanks again for checking out my site.  Stay tuned for more substantial commentary ASAP!

    To Mr Furnish :

You told us your site “Madhiwatch” would be gone after a few weeks, a delay who would have allowed its readers to save its contents. Yet it disappeared today, i.e. a week later day to day, just when I wanted to save the interesting informations you had given year after year about mahdism and Muslim eschatology.
Please, would you mind to create an “archive” section where they would still be available ?

    1. Ms.Mr. (?) S,
Yes, I realize I posted that commentary over at Mahdiwatch. But customer service at the company which ran that site told me that they only way to leave that message up was to pay for another month of it, and frankly I didn’t want to do that.
Almost all of my writings from that site are, however, available in my two books “Sects, Lies, and the Caliphate” and “Ten Years’ Captivation with the Mahdi’s Camps”–which are available pretty inexpensively on my Amazon author page (linkable above on “order my books”).
That’s the best I can do. Sorry.
