My plans on a grand, retrospective final 2018 blogpost having been shattered by Christmas trips and stage rehearsals (I play the Elizabethan highwayman and aspiring thespian Robert Middleton in a local production of Thee & Thou), I shall finish this year with a whimper, not a bang–by posting this hour-long interview of me discussing Ottoman counter-insurgency, Trump’s counter-terrorism strategy, classic rock albums, and my Middle-earth book(s). I’ll be back with longer takes in early 2019!
And just for fun, here’s a pic of me as Dr. Henry Jones at Halloween (which allowed me to exclaim “JUN-yah!” more than once):
Great stuff! Just listened. Informative, and entertaining.

Until Bill Gates gives you a patronage salary you will have to spend a lot of time at working for a living. Still, if this internet site is a hobby it would be great to hear from you more often. As a Lutheran myself I would hope that more L.C.M.S.ers would write on their personal fields of expertise and interest.Your offerings are certainly worth my time. If you have said most of what you want to say about jihadism on your previous site, you might move some of the best offerings and republish them here. Please add some Middle Earth expertise also. Gott bei mit dich.

Michael,
Thanks for your kind words–and encouragement! My old “Mahdiwatch” site is deader than the 12th Imam, but most of that wound up in my two books “Sects, Lies and the Caliphate” and “Ten Years’ Captivation with the Mahdi’s Camps.” Now: off to post a new blog!
